In order to track the mountain gorillas, it is a requirement to have a gorilla [permit. A gorilla permit offers traveler with access to the tropical rain forests for a single gorilla trek. If you would like to track the mountain gorillas more than once, you will need to obtain gorilla permits for different dates.
In all reserves that protect the gorillas, tourists are permitted to spend no longer than one hour with the gorillas. Tourists are not allowed to eat or smoke inn the presence of these great apes.
Please also note that
- Gorilla permits are not transferable from one person to another.
- Gorilla Permits are booked for a specified date. Changing a date for a booked gorilla permit attract different fees (up to USD$150) in different countries.
Uganda Gorilla Permits
Gorilla Permits in Uganda cost USD600 per person. These permits can be obtained from the Uganda Wildlife Authority or purchased through a local tour operator.
Rwanda Gorilla Permits
Gorilla Permits in Rwanda cost USD750 per person and they can be obtained from the Rwanda Development Board or through a local local tour operator.
Congo Gorilla Permits
Gorilla Permits in Congo cost USD450 per person per trek and can be obtained from Virunga CD or through a local tour operator.
